and the Temple of Valadier

The Frasassi Caves are a true spectacle of nature, a set of caves, caverns, tunnels, canyons, an authentic underground world which constitutes the largest karst complex in Europe.

Inside you can admire natural sculptures formed by calcareous stratification which over the course of 190 million years thanks to the work of water and calcareous rock which, dissolving in small quantities, falling in a dripping form deposits and forms concretions of considerable size "stalagmites and stalactites".

El Cito and Canfaito

Elcito or also "the village of silence" is a small castle perched on a rocky outcrop 821 meters high. It retains few signs of the medieval castle but some traces of walls, on the north side one of the access doors to the original fortified structure, built in a carnelian stone arch. Built to safeguard the Benedictine abbey of S.Maria Valfucina (IX century) and as the Abbot's residence. Even today it is one of the most evocative and rugged places in the area.

About two kilometers away, on the slopes of Monte San Vicino, is the Canfaito plateau. Walking through the vast beech woods, which in autumn offer incredible colors, you can admire the real patriarchs of nature centenary trees including a 500-year-old specimen, which is one of the 300 monumental trees of Italy.

Monte San Vicino Nature Reserve

and the Abbey of Val di Castro

The Monte San Vicino Regional Nature Reserve is characterized by massive limestone formations of the upper Trias, it includes not only Monte San Vicino (1484 m asl) but also the Canfaito plateau located on its slopes. The anthropological and archaeological values given by caves, ravines and rock shelters inhabited since prehistoric times and in which ancient stone tools and utensils have also been found are significant.

The Abbey of San Salvatore in Val di Castro founded by San Romualdo way back in 1005, today is a renowned organic farm, where you can taste their 0 km products in the restaurant inside the abbey, a place lost in time.

Lame Rosse the Canyon of the Marches

This itinerary allows us to discover a very suggestive landscape.

The easiest and fastest way to reach Le Lame is the itinerary that starts from the dam of Lake Fiastra. Going along the whole length of the latter, you cross a small tunnel then continuing along a tree-lined avenue you walk until you reach a completely gravelly ground the splendid scenery of the Lame Rosse will open up

The Gola del Furlo

and the Marmitte dei Giganti

The Gola del Furlo is the perfect place for a peaceful walk in the countryside with family or friends and also an opportunity for a picnic in the open air and for some exercise in the adventure park.

The Marmitte dei Giganti, also called the Metauro canyon, is a unique phenomenon in Italy. We are in Fossonbrone, 2 km from the historic centre, where there is a narrow gorge (30 meters deep) dug by the Metauro river, an example of the strength and beauty of nature. The Marmitte can be admired from a small "Diocletian" bridge or you can take a short path that allows you to enter the canyon itself.
